Frequently Asked Questions.
Clear answers on timeframes, legal requirements, and typical surveying processes in NSW.
General
How long does a typical survey take?
Timing depends on the agreed scope, site access, records research and current scheduling. Your project quote will confirm the expected timing and when that period starts.
Do I need a registered surveyor?
A NSW Registered Surveyor is required for legal boundary determination and cadastral plans. Other project requirements depend on the purpose of the survey and the relevant council, certifier or authority requirements.
What areas of NSW do you cover?
East West Surveyors services Greater Sydney, with the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and selected regional NSW projects available on request.
Construction
When do I need a set-out survey?
Construction set-out transfers design positions and levels onto the site. The required stages depend on the approved plans, construction sequence and your builder or certifier’s requirements, so confirm the stages in the agreed scope before work starts.
What is a WAE survey?
A work-as-executed survey records completed works within an agreed scope, such as stormwater, driveways or structures, for comparison with approved designs or applicable requirements. Acceptance remains a decision for the relevant engineer, certifier, council or authority.
Subdivision
How long does a Torrens subdivision take?
The overall timeframe varies with the proposal, approvals, authority requirements, document preparation and NSW Land Registry Services processing. The surveying work is only one part of that process; project-specific timing is confirmed after the scope is reviewed.
What’s the difference between Strata and Torrens?
Torrens title generally creates separate land parcels. Strata title creates individual lots together with common property managed through an owners corporation. The suitable structure depends on the site, design, approvals and legal advice.
